Another name for science fiction is "speculative fiction." The Planet Nine Trilogy is full of just that: speculation. Without denying the importance of what is, it's the "what if" questions that are the most fun to think about. What if there was a ninth planet in our solar system we didn't know about? What if we could live there? I guess there's only one way to find out...
In addition to writing fun stories, I try my best to remain faithful to what I think makes a story "believable." Many (but not all) of the fantasy elements are rooted in scientific fact or at least have a plausible explanation. I think creative and coherent world-building makes a story more enjoyable, because it allows the reader to really get to know the universe the characters inhabit.
I like to use artwork to help bring my stories to life. I draw pictures of my characters, settings, and inventions, both with pen and paper and with my computer. These projects help me visualize the things in my stories. It's difficult to describe something you haven't seen!
My Planet Nine novels are written to resemble juvenile space adventures from the 1950's. Back in those days, readers were intrigued by the possibility of space travel, which was just starting out. Today, as space programs around the world are pushing to send humans back to the Moon and on to Mars, the space story has again found its rightful place on the library shelves.
But the Planet Nine books aren't just a throwback to the first Space Race. They also contain up-to-date, relevant astronomical knowledge to the best of my understanding. After all, the existence of Planet Nine itself is hotly debated among scientists.
Although they are grounded in our current scientific theories, the Planet Nine books also contain an element of mythology. This helps add a layer mystery to the storylines. Moreover, I don't just want to write about what science already knows, but about the possibilities of what scientists may have yet to discover.
The Illustrations in the Planet Nine trilogy (and this website) were all created by the author. Mediums include pen and ink, colored pencil, and computer programs such as Microsoft Paint, Paint 3D, and Photo Editor.
